Denmark Open: Gemke Knocks Out Vitidsarn
Rasmus Gemke delivered one of the biggest surprises of the VICTOR Denmark Open 2026 first round, coming from a game down to defeat top seed Kunlavut Vitidsarn 13-21 21-17 21-12.
“Fantastic feeling winning against the world No.1 on home soil in front of these spectators. The atmosphere was amazing and I’m just really happy and proud,” Gemke said.
Gemke admitted initially struggling to find his rhythm and produce the quality needed to challenge the Thai star. Despite that, the world No.27 refused to give up.
“Somehow I managed to fight my way back into the match and suddenly it started to work for me. He made some errors and I was back in,” said the 29-year-old. “Of course, it’s a big confidence boost after a win like that. Really looking forward to the second round.”
The victory is not Gemke’s first against Vitidsarn this season. He beat the recent Asian Games gold medallist at the China Open in July, also in three games.
Gemke will meet the winner of the Ng Ka Long Angus-Yushi Tanaka match in the next round.
