Delta flight hit by firework during Chicago landing
July 5 (UPI) -- A Delta crew member reported feeling a "big bang" after a plane was struck with a firework while landing in Chicago.
Delta Flight 1076 was arriving at Chicago Midway International Airport from Atlanta on Saturday. The airline said the Airbus A319 was hit by a firework while making its descent at about 8:30 p.m. CDT.
"We just had a firework hit our plane ,"the pilot could be heard saying on air traffic control audio. "We're just hoping it was just the mortar that went off underneath, but definitely felt the big bang."
Air traffic control warned the pilot of fireworks being fired off prior to the arrival of the flight.
The flight landed safely and there was no damage to the plane.
The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the incident.
