‘Corruption in politics’: Siddaramaiah announces retirement from contesting polls

BENGALURU: Former Karnataka chief minister and senior Congress leader Siddaramaiah announced his retirement from electoral politics. Siddaramaiah's unexpected announcement is months after he stepped down from the chief ministerial berth. His announcement was on his social media platform X.

‘The politics today has become corrupt. So, I will not contest the assembly elections in 2028, but will remain active in politics,’ he said in the post. Meantime, he added that although the people of his constituency are demanding that he contest again, he feels that it is not the right step to take.

He said that he took this decision because honest politics does not exist today. Siddaramaiah pointed age and health as the reasons behind the decision. He also reminded of his political career and tradition spanning nearly five decades. For the past five decades, the people of this state have seen and loved him as one of them. Siddaramaiah said that he will always be grateful.
