CBC News: Compass wins Canadian Screen Award for best local newscast
Awards were handed out during a ceremony in Toronto on Friday
CBC Prince Edward Island's supper-hour news program has won a Canadian Screen Award for best local newscast.
CBC News: Compass was nominated for the award alongside CityNews Toronto, CTV News Vancouver at 6 and Global News Hour at 6 B.C.
The awards were handed out by the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television during a ceremony Friday in Toronto.
"Local news matters everywhere," CBC News: Compass host Louise Martin said in accepting the award.
"We have a small but mighty team, but this award is for the Islanders, for Prince Edward Island, for our small little province. We can be big on the Canadian stage as well."
Other awards and nominations this year
CBC News: Compass is also nominated for the Radio Television Digital News Association Canada East Region award for best TV newscast in a small or medium market. Regional award winners will be announced in September.

CBC P.E.I. is also nominated for three Atlantic Journalism Awards, which will be presented June 20 in Halifax:
Kindergarten to Grade 12 - Lessons in Life also won a Wilbur Award and a New York Festivals Gold Tower Radio Award this year.
