CBC journalists win Atlantic Journalism Awards

Annual awards honour excellence and achievement in journalism on the East Coast

The winners of the 2026 Atlantic Journalism Awards (AJAs) were announced at a gala event in Halifax on June 20.

CBC received 21 AJAs, including nine gold, nine silver, one bronze and two special awards, with work from all four provinces recognized.

Each year, the AJAs honour journalistic excellence and achievement for print, radio, TV, digital news and current affairs in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland and Labrador.

The 2026 Student Journalist Award winners are: Gold - Melissa Mbeba - NSCC Ivany Campus, N.S., Mothering Within; Silver - Marlo Ritchie - University of King's College, N.S., Remand numbers in Nova Scotia’s jails could soar under new law, warn experts; and Silver - Olivia Nitti and Tedi Buffett - University of King's College, N.S., Finding sanctuary. CBC was among the Student Award sponsors.
