Carney revives partisan Senate appointments
While Senate of Canada is intended to be a "chamber of sober second thought," whether it is has always been up for debate. Senators are appointed, not elected, and Tuesday saw Prime Minister Mark Carney make his first picks. The prime minister appointed a Conservative MP from Quebec, a senior Liberal strategist, a cancer researcher from New Brunswick, and a Manitoban businesswoman. As Jillian Piper explains, Carney is taking a different approach than his predecessor.
