Canada earned its fourth medal of the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow Saturday with silver in the women's team artistic gymnastics competition on Day 2.

Led by four-time Olympian Ellie Black and rising star Lia-Monica Fontaine, Canada earned a total score 157.300 after placing first in the balance beam and floor exercise, second in the vault and fourth in the uneven bars.

Canada's team also includes Gabrielle Black, Lia Grace Redick and Alyssa Guerrier-Calixte.

Australia captured gold with 158.400, while England (154.300) leapfrogged Wales for Bronze in the final moment.

Ellie Black led the women's individual all-around qualifying with a total score of 53.400 and also qualified for the uneven bars final after earning the second-best score of the day (13.850). The Halifax native won the Commonwealth all-around title and helped Canada's team earn gold at the 2018 edition in Gold Coast, Australia.

"I'm so excited to be back competing. This is my first all-around competition since returning, and I've only recently started training vault and floor again, so those events are still coming along," Ellie Black said.

"I'm really proud to be back competing all-around, to be with this amazing team, and to experience the Commonwealth Games again. I'm just having so much fun."

Fontaine, a 16-year-old from Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, Que., topped the qualifying for the vault final with a score of 13.750. She won silver in the event at the 2025 world championships in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Fontaine qualified for the all-around final in fifth place (52.050) and the floor exercise final in second (13.200). Redick also booked a spot in floor exercise, ranking fourth with 13.000.

Ellie Black and Fontaine will compete in the balance beam final after qualifying fifth and sixth with scores of 12.900 and 12.850, respectively.

Saturday's swimming finals saw 18-year-old Oliver Dawson of Grand Prairie, Alta., narrowly miss the podium with a fourth-place finish in the 100-metre breaststroke.

Dawson clocked a time of 59.70, finishing 0.05 seconds behind bronze medallist Adam Ramsay-Peaty of England at the Tollcross International Swimming Centre. Australia's Sam Williamson took gold in 59.17, touching just ahead of Jersey's Filip Nowacki (59.34).

Toronto's Josh Liendo qualified for a pair of Sunday finals after finishing second in his 50m freestyle and 100m butterfly semifinals with times of 21.61 and 50.67, respectively.

Five-time Olympic medallist Kylie Masse, of LaSalle, Ont., won her semifinal in the women’s 100m backstroke with a time of 59.71. Teammate Madison Kryger of Niagara Falls, Ont., also qualified for Sunday's final, finishing third in the second semifinal in 1:00.51.

Fellow Canadian Sophie Angus was second in her women’s 100m breaststroke semifinal, qualifying with a time of 1:06.74.

Hamilton Para swimmer Emma Van Dyk finished seventh in the women's 200m freestyle S14 final.

Ella Jansen of Burlington, Ont., was eighth in the women's 200m freestyle final.

Canadian boxer Joshua Ofori got off to a lightning-fast start at the Commonwealth Games.

Ofori made quick work of his opponent in the men's 80 kg Round of 32, where he faced Sri Lanka's Sithija Sudamma. He secured the victory just 1:21 into the opening round when the referee stopped the contest.

With the win, Ofori advances to the Round of 16, where he is set to face Fiji's Aminiasi Saratibau on Monday.

Canada's Keoma Al-Ahmadieh faced India's Sachin Sachin in a men's 60 kg round of 32 bout. Al-Ahmadieh was unable to advance, dropping a 4-1 decision on points.

Boyd, McKerihen steal win against New Zealand

The Canadian women's bowls pair of Emma Boyd and Kelly McKerihen took on New Zealand in their third-round matchup. Canada edged the opening set 4-3 before New Zealand rallied to win the second set 5-3, overcoming a late Canadian comeback from a 4-1 deficit to force a tiebreak.

With the crowd chanting "CA-NA-DA," the Canadians delivered in the decisive set, winning it 2-0 to secure the match. The victory improves Canada's record to 2-1, good for third place in Section C.

In other bowls action, Canadian legend Ryan Bester lost 2-0 in his third-round men’s singles match against Malta’s Shaun James Parnis, dropping him to a 1-2 record in the group stage and fourth place in Section D.
