Canada Post has announced the nearly half-million addresses that will lose home delivery next year.
The postal codes, which represent 37 communities, will move to community mailboxes in 2027, the Crown corporation said Thursday.
The 485,000 addresses are on top of the 136,000 announced (new window) in April.
The latest addresses are part of Canada Post's plans to convert the four million addresses that still get their mail at their door over the next five years.
Community mailbox conversions are a key element of Canada Post's plan to transform the postal service to meet the evolving needs of Canadians without becoming a recurring burden on taxpayers, Canada Post wrote in a statement.
Nearly three-quarters of all Canadian addresses already get their mail through community, apartment lobby and post office mailboxes.
The move to community mailboxes will increase security by putting nearly all mail and parcels delivered by Canada Post under lock and key. It will also reduce costs, as delivering to the door costs significantly more than to a community mailbox, the statement said.
