Canada expands technology-backed search for Ukrainian children and captives

Canada is stepping up its support for Ukraine in the search for children illegally taken to Russia, prisoners of war, and detained civilians. Artificial intelligence, tracking technologies, and other modern methods are being used, Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand said in Toronto.

For the past two years, Canada has helped Ukraine use artificial intelligence, tracking technologies, and new innovative methods to locate children, prisoners of war, and detained civilians. Now we are deepening and strengthening this work.

Canada allocates funding to locate and return Ukrainians

According to Anand, the first step in returning children is to establish where they are and the routes along which they were moved. The minister stressed that modern technologies, including optical tools, play an important role in the joint efforts of Canada and other countries.

The second international conference on the return of Ukrainian children, detained civilians, and prisoners of war has opened in Toronto. It is co-hosted by Canada, Ukraine, and Norway. At the start of the event, Anand announced nearly $650,000 in funding to help Ukrainians who have been captured or abducted.
