Broadcom CEO Delivers Stark Warning on Artificial Intelligence

Broadcom AVGO CEO Hock Tan sent a message about the next challenge facing the AI industry: securing enough funding may become harder than obtaining chips as companies expand their computing infrastructure.

Tan said wafer and memory supply constraints were easing, while the cost of building systems for advanced AI models could put greater pressure on financing. He also pointed to OpenAI and Anthropic, noting that their latest models and AI assistants have shown the potential to generate substantial revenue.

Broadcom is reportedly holding early discussions about arranging more than $50 billion in debt financing to help OpenAI purchase custom AI chips developed through their collaboration. Separately, Broadcom is providing Anthropic with up to $42 billion in lending to support infrastructure investment, as part of a broader relationship involving computing equipment supply and leasing.

Another reported financing effort could involve $60 billion for AI chips intended for Anthropic and other companies. Reuters has reported that Anthropic could become Broadcom's largest chip-design customer in 2027, highlighting the growing financial demands behind AI expansion.
