Bodies of 2 missing swimmers found near Grand Bend: OPP

3 deaths this week at Pinery Provincial Park

The bodies of two missing swimmers were recovered near Grand Bend on Saturday, according to Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in Lambton County.

The first body recovered was a 66-year-old woman from London, Ont., who was last seen at a dock on a property on Canal Street in Grand Bend on Friday afternoon. Members of the underwater search and recovery unit and the Lambton Marine Unit located the woman's body in the Ausable River on Saturday around 1:45 p.m, OPP said in a release.

A second swimmer, a 36-year-old from Scarborough, Ont., was found dead in Lake Huron at Pinery Provincial Park, OPP said. The person was reported missing at the beach around 3 p.m. and their body was found at 8:20 p.m.

Police did not publicly identify the dead swimmers.

The OPP's aviation unit, joint rescue coordination centre, Sarnia Fire and wardens at the Pinery Provincial Park assisted in the search.

These deaths came after another earlier this week at the Pinery beach, located on the southeast shore of Lake Huron 60 kilometres northeast of Sarnia.

On Thursday, beachgoers found the body of a 28-year-old from Scarborough, following a nearly 24-hour search. Police did not publicly identify that person.
