Beyond Admiring the Problem: Leaders discuss Solutions for Canada's Future

Canada remains a work in progress and the path forward requires an ongoing conversation to develop solutions to our challenges. These sentiments emerged as the main theme during a recent forum at the School of Public Policy.

The School of Public Policy teamed with the Charlottetown-based Confederation Centre’s Palmer Institute for Canadian Leadership to host the conference titled: Beyond Admiring the Problem: Solutions for a Stronger Canada.

The event brought together leaders from politics, business, military, civil society groups along with academics and media commentators from across the country to advance practical solutions to some of Canada’s most pressing challenges.

“This is an ongoing conversation. The country has always been a work in progress,” said Dr. Jeff Collins, Director of the Palmer Institute for Canadian Leadership. “Canada does not suffer from a shortage of challenges but rather a shortage of venues where leaders are asked to bring solutions.”

The half-day event at the University of Calgary emphasized actionable ideas and constructive dialogue on how Canada can become stronger, more united and more economically competitive.

“Clearly the status quo is not working. There’s more work to do,” said Martha Hall Findlay, Director of the School and James S. and Barbara A. Palmer Chair in Public Policy.

A report on ideas put forward at the conference will be released this fall.
