Artificial intelligence (AI) company Antropics, which is about to go public (IPO), has decided to contribute to the public interest fund that will create a new 5% stake in the company. Including the existing agreement, about 20% of the stake will be used for public interest purposes.
Antropic announced on its official blog on the 18th (local time) that it will contribute 5% of its stake to the "Antropic Public Interest Fund" after shareholder approval.
Whenever the company's value rises by 50% over the set standard value, it will hand over an additional 2% stake at the discretion of the board of directors. The more the company grows, the larger the stake used in the public interest.
Antropics cited the impact of AI on the labor market as a prime example, saying that the fund could be used for large-scale donations to non-profit organizations or direct distribution to specific classes.
"AI can create enormous economic value, but it can also lead to instability for many workers," Antropics said. "Considering the pace of AI development, a bolder approach may be needed."
Antropics previously agreed to $200 million for research and response to AI's labor market impact, and this fund is the nature of expanding it.
The fund will be established in the form of a limited liability company (LLC) fully invested by Antropics. Antropics said it would not use its stake in the fund to lobby or donate political funds inside and outside the United States.
"Technology companies often give incremental rewards to management, but we instead turn that stake to the public interest," Antropic said. When the co-founders' 80% stake donation pledge and employee stake donation matching programs are combined, about 20% of the company's stake will be used for public interest purposes.
Antropic is preparing for the largest-ever initial public offering (IPO) in the form of a public corporation (PBC). The governance structure of the fund and the standard value of the stake expansion will be disclosed in the next few months. The market is paying attention to whether Antropics can be recognized for its corporate value of up to $2 trillion (about 2,800 trillion won).
Meanwhile, Antropics posted revenue of $18.8 billion in the third quarter of this year and achieved an adjusted operating margin of more than 11%. Sales in the third quarter are 3.6 times higher than annual sales last year.
Antropics initially sought to go public this month, but with the schedule postponed, it is more likely to go public after the U.S. midterm elections in November. OpenAI also pushed for a listing within this year, but the listing time has been postponed to next year.
