Autumn is a season of extremes in the atmosphere--and sometimes that includes "extremely boring" as the weather over Canada largely fell silent this week.

1: B. The town of Maple Creek, Sask., got up to 30.6°C on Oct. 25, 1924, marking the latest 30-degree reading on record anywhere in Canada.

2: A. Water temperature anomalies in a key swath of the Pacific reached +2.0°C this week, officially hitting the threshold for a very strong (often called "super") El Niño event.

3: B. Hurricane Hortense struck Nova Scotia with 130 km/h winds on Sept. 14, 1996, becoming the first hurricane to make a direct landfall in the region since the 1970s.
