ArcelorMittal expands Microsoft partnership to upgrade IT systems with AI, cloud technology

LUXEMBOURG: ArcelorMittal, the Luxembourg-headquartered global steelmaker, has expanded its partnership with Microsoft to modernize its information technology infrastructure by adopting cloud computing, artificial intelligence (AI), and advanced data management tools.

Under the expanded agreement, the company will use Microsoft Azure as its primary cloud computing platform and deploy Microsoft Fabric, a cloud-based data and analytics platform; Microsoft Purview, Microsoft’s data governance and security platform; and Microsoft Foundry, an enterprise AI platform for building and managing AI applications and digital assistants. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

ArcelorMittal said the technologies will help modernize its core IT systems, strengthen cybersecurity, improve system reliability, consolidate data into a single platform, and reduce reliance on legacy infrastructure while accelerating AI-driven decision-making across its global operations.

Chief Information Officer Nik Puri said the expanded partnership is aimed at embedding data and AI into the company’s operations to improve efficiency, accelerate innovation, and strengthen its competitiveness in the global steel industry.

Samer Abu-Ltaif, Microsoft’s President for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, said the collaboration would help ArcelorMittal build an AI-first manufacturing enterprise by using Azure’s cloud and data capabilities to transform the way it operates.
