Storms cause power and cell outages around Regina
An intense thunderstorm dropped heavy rain onto Regina Sunday morning.
Several streets were flooded in north west and central Regina, including portions of Dewdney Avenue and Lewvan Drive.
The storm also caused a power outage in several Regina neighbourhoods including Parkridge Creekside, Glencairn Eastview, Ross Industrial Park, Warehouse District, North Central, Rosemont, Windsor Place Washington Park, Dewdney Place and Broders Annex around 8:30 am CST according to SaskPower.
SaskPower reported that power was restored in those neighbourhoods at 10:51 am CST.
At 11 am CST SaskPower reported an outage at the 1700 block of Empress Street and McIntosh Street that was restored at 12:08 pm CST.
The outage was caused by several substations throughout the city going down, most likely due to lightning or high winds, according to Sask Power spokesperson Joel Cherry.
Approximately 10,000 customers were impacted by Regina outages, SaskPower said.
Sasktel reported intermittent cell outages due to a storm northeast of Regina in the Punnichy and Govan area.
A line of severe thunderstorms in southern and central Saskatchewan has been making its way northeast.
Environment Canada reported heavy rain and damaging wind gusts will hit or have already hit communities across southern and central Saskatchewan. It also warns of quarter to ping-pong ball-sized hail in areas affected by the storms.
