GLENDALE, Ariz. – Shortly after the September release of his eighth studio album, "Play," Ed Sheeran thrilled fans with the announcement he would return to stadium stages this summer.

His LOOP Tour kicked off in January in New Zealand and Australia and in the intervening months also, well, looped around South America. The genial ginger singer-songwriter returned to North America June 13 with a run commencing at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.

During the 2 ½-hour show, Sheeran divided his time between the main stage and a B-stage, where he seemed most comfortable, especially when playing ballads "Thinking Out Loud" and "Perfect."

The production boasts a gorgeous curved screen behind Sheeran, while an intermittently extending bridge provides him a path back and forth.

Given his 15-year, highly productive career, the British musician sated fans with selections from all of his catalog, including energetic versions of "Castle on the Hill," "Shivers" and a prolonged "I See Fire."

Sheeran has a rotating core of opening acts, including Myles Smith, Lukas Graham and Aaron Rowe, and will run his stadium tour through cities including Nashville, Atlanta, Seattle and Denver before wrapping the North American leg in November.

Here's what Sheeran performed on the first U.S. date of the LOOP Tour.
