Passenger vehicle collided with disabled truck, police say

Two women have died Monday after a two-vehicle collision on Highway 401 near Gananoque, Ont., according to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).

Emergency crews responded to the collision in the westbound lanes shortly after 12:30 a.m., police reported later Monday morning in a press release.

OPP said that their intitial investigation indicates that a transport truck was stopped, with safety cones out, on the right shoulder and then was struck by a passenger vehicle.

Two women in the passenger vehicle, a 47-year-old and a 73-year-old, were pronounced dead at the scene, said police, adding that the driver of their vehicle reported no serious injuries but was taken to hospital for assessment.

The driver of the transport truck did not report any injuries and was not transported to hospital, police said.

OPP asked anyone who witnessed the collision or may have dash camera footage of the area to contact the Leeds County OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
