Two people have died following a fatal fire at a Montreal apartment building on Saturday morning.

At around 7:30 a.m., Montreal police spokesperson Manuel Couture said officers received 911 calls reporting a fire in an apartment building on 42nd Street near 24th Avenue in the Villeray—Saint-Michel—Parc-Extension borough.

Couture said several residents were able to evacuate the building.
